A slow decline in the amount of cushion present in the bottom of the feet begins to happen as people age. This decline is even more common in women, particularly women that wear high heels. This can make continuing to wear heels or even just walking around on a regular basis uncomfortable and painful. Cosmetic Enhancement Center is proud to offer patients a simple injectable cosmetic treatment that can restore support to the bottom of the feet — Sculptra® Aesthetic.
Why Does the Foot Pad Break Down Over Time?
The feet are very small when compared to the rest of the body. Because of this, each step exerts a force 50% greater than the person’s entire body weight on the feet. For an individual that works in a standing occupation or exercises frequently, this can cause the balls of their feet to break down until they begin to feel chronic burning or general discomfort in their heels.
The breakdown of the footpad is significantly more common in women that wear high heels because of the way the heels position the feet. High heels slant the foot forward and down, placing a greater amount of force on the balls of the feet. This increased force causes the foot pad to break down more quickly and significantly.
How can Sculptra® Aesthetic Help?
While Sculptra® Aesthetic is typically used to correct wrinkles and fine lines in the face, it has been clinically proven to be useful for adding additional cushion to the foot pads. Our very own Doctor Christopher Toth is one of the only physicians in the United States that is trained by the International Aesthetic Foot Society to administer this treatment to patients.
Sculptra® Aesthetic is comprised of poly-L-lactic acid. When injected into the bottoms of the feet, this compound helps replace fat lost over time and stimulates the body’s natural process of collagen growth. The results of each treatment session typically last between six and twelve months, with more and more successful collagen rebuilding taking place with each subsequent treatment.
Am I a Candidate for this Treatment?
Nearly anyone experiencing the painful side effects of depleted cushioning in their heels is a potential candidate for Sculptra® Aesthetic injections. While the cushion in the footpad breaks down most quickly in women that wear high heels frequently, it can occur in nearly anyone once enough time has passed. It is particularly common in individuals in standing occupations, including teachers, hairdressers, plastic surgeons, and salespeople.
