Although it may sound like something out of the latest “Twilight” movie; the Vampire Facelift has taken the medical aesthetic industry by storm. This facial rejuvenation treatment is actually not a “facelift” in the traditional sense. Instead, it is a non-surgical, injectable treatment that refreshes your appearance by combining a dermal filler with a patient’s own platelet enriched blood plasma.
What Does it Do?
The Vampire Facelift is one of the newest anti-aging treatments to hit the market. The procedure involves injections of an HA (hyaluronic acid) filler, such as Radiesse or Juvederm, in combination with injections of PRP (platelet rich plasma). PRP is blood plasma with a concentration of platelets and other growth factors. The addition of PRP extends results of this cosmetic enhancement procedure for 12 to 15 months before a touch-up treatment is needed.
The Vampire Facelift is used to treat the following:
• Loss of volume around the cheeks and eyes
• Fine lines and wrinkles
• Sagging skin in the cheeks, eyelids and jowls
• Skin that looks dull and tired
• Loss of volume around mouth and lips
Dermal fillers add volume for a softer and smoother complexion with fewer fine lines and wrinkles. The addition of PRP will not only increase volume in the skin and will continually work as a rejuvenating agent over a long period of time. PRP works with the filler to repair and rejuvenate the skin through the formation of new blood vessels and enhancing collagen production. The result is a more youthful appearance that typically lasts one year or longer.
How is it done?
The Vampire Facelift procedure begins by drawing the patient’s blood, comparable to the amount taken during routine lab work. The blood is then spun in a centrifuge which separates platelets from the rest of the bloods components. The patient is first treated with a hyaluronic acid filler, which is carefully placed in the precise locations requiring additional volume. The PRP is then injected into certain areas to promote new tissue growth ,enhance and extend results.
The procedure is considered minimally-invasive and does not require any anesthesia or recovery time. Patients are offered a topical anesthetic to numb the skin prior to treatment. After treatment, makeup can be reapplied and the patient is able to return to regular activities right away.
