But just how does it work? Science is a dish best served cold, so today we are walking through the “how” of CoolSculpting!
Icy Beginnings
CoolSculpting began in 2005, originally founded by a company called Zeltiq, and was developed based on the findings of two doctors in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Dieter Manstein and Dr. R. Rox Anderson of Harvard Medical School and the Wellman Center for Photomedicine at Massachusetts General Hospital were inspired by “popsicle panniculitis,” a phenomenon of fat loss in children’s cheeks due to frequent ice and popsicle eating. They then used this information to create a controlled cooling technology that could be applied to specific areas on the body, which led to the CoolSculpting treatment we know and love today!
CoolSculpting Today
Since the treatments’ launch, the technology has become even more innovative, convenient and successful. New handpieces have allowed for even more areas of the body to be treated with controlled cooling, such as the inner and outer thighs, abdomen, back, bra fat area, arms and even chin! Now, there are opportunities for DualSculpting, which allow for patients to be treated with multiple handpieces in one sitting (dependent on if the provider has the appropriate equipment – we do!). Finally, the latest advancements have made the treatment even more comfortable for patients. During treatment, patients can watch Netflix, check email, or even take a nap!
