Botox is known around the world for its ability to quickly treat wrinkles and tighten skin without invasive surgery. However, did you know it has a number of other benefits as well? Botox won’t just help you look and feel younger, but there are medical advantages to this treatment as well.
Botox is actually a form of toxin called botulinum, but there’s absolutely no risk when used properly. This is why we always recommend our clients work with professionals, rather than having ‘spa parties’ and injecting themselves. It helps smooth wrinkles by weakening muscles at the site of injection. It is particularly great for use on “new” wrinkles that haven’t set yet.
However, wrinkles aren’t the only use for Botox! Below are a few of Botox’s medical impacts:
- No sweat. Quite literally, Botox can be used to stop the production of sweat. Botox inhibits a chemical called acetylcholine, which is responsible for stimulating sweat glands and thus production. Botox is FDA approved for treatment of hyperhidrosis, or, as laypeople would call it, “sweating way too much.”
- Headache be gone. Even doctors aren’t sure why Botox is so effective at relieving migraine pain, but it’s thought that Botox prevents nerves from sending pain messages to the brain. Additionally, the muscle-relaxing qualities of the drug help ease pain, as well.
- Be happy! Have you ever heard the phrase “fake it until you make it?” Well, since most individuals are trying to stave off wrinkles while using Botox, the drug is used to prevent the individual from frowning, which causes wrinkles. An unexpected side effect is that some people feel happier! There’s no scientific data to back this one up, but it’s still intriguing.
